NOLA Spots to visit ASAP!

After hearing about Lil Dizzy’s closing, I decided to really dedicate some time and attention to the HEARTBEAT of this great city. This restaurant had an affordable lunch buffet with delicious gumbo, omelet station, fried chicken, mac & cheese and more. I was bummed to discover this Creole restaurant was closing after the pandemic.

The city has so many hidden gems that start and then suddenly they disappear. I want to help as many businesses survive, even through a pandemic - that has almost reached 1 year. We can do it together. There’s nothing like spreading a good ‘word of mouth’ that something was good. We have to hold our culture accountable. So, with a sense of urgency - and due diligence, I request for you to spread the word to your black, brown, white and any other color friends around. This is diversity & inclusion at it’s best.

I use my weekends to explore different restaurants. Here goes my list. I hope you get to try them and like them as much as I did.

Keep the culture alive,

Lynn

Pee Wee’s is probably one of the most popular on my list. With the onset of the new location on 4500 Old Gentilly, things are probably really crazy for them. I worked in the restaurant industry before and the opening stages are the toughest.

Pictured here is the stuffed potatoe. I really enjoy the Hennessey BBQ wings aw well. The stuffed crabs and (of course) crab cakes are so good too.

Dee’s just reopened on St. Bernard. I finally tried them and was very impressed. One plate filled with potatoes, snow crabs, corn, shrimp and sausage. They use a buttery sauce to top the plates and it is so good and tasty.

I hear the lines can be long sometimes. I had an awesome Dee’s experience. I called it an experience because I pulled up and felt like I entered the gates of foodie heaven. I told him my order and he went to the back and already had it bagged. I didn’t even have to call it in. They already had a certain number of plates prepared. I just call that foodie heaven. In my Tupac voice - ‘Is there a heaven for a foodie gangsta’? This was it.

I was in the Faubourg Marigny area with my sister having dinner. We stumbled on the Bayou restaurant. We have been going to the Bullard location for years. It is really close proximity to my house. I always loved the chicken wings and they did not disappoint at this location. I also tried the crab cakes and they were delicious.

Here is another Black Owned establishment that we need to support. Even if you do not go out, you can use this as a recommendation to friends.

I have been watching these brothers Pop Up for a few weeks now. I finally tried it a few weekends back. The MOJO glaze with the pasta on top of the turkey leg is OMG so good. I don’t know what’s in that glaze but it is RIDICULOUS and GOOD. I heard the drinks were awesome as well but did not try. The turkey leg that I got was so tender, the meat fell off the bone.

I heard about the new location on South Rampart and was not surprised. This is a much better location than the other building. I just love the savory beignet stuffed with crawfish is my favorite. I can’t wait to try this new location on 3325 St. Claude Avenue

New Orleans definitely has the vegans, ‘veganish’ and the weekender ‘veganers’ like me. I recently heard about the new location on 514 South Rampart Street and I was happy about this upgrade.

My favorite is the V Spot - It has cheese, spinach tomatoes, pickles and homeade G4 sauce.
